Opening Quarter light window

Post by randiandipandi »

Hi, I have a 1989 spec. van with fixed quarter lights but I know that opening quarter lights are fitted to some T25's. I've seen rubbers for these on ebay - would I be able to buy these (and the different glass) and then just swap them over or are later vans a different shape? or do I need anything else? Has anyone else done this?

Mrs.Randiandipandi has had several beetles over the years and loves the opening quarter lights

Thanks
Andi

Opening quarterlights fit all years.

You need the whole thing ie, frame, seal, glass and opening catch

They are handed for each side and often pop up on ebay

I've been looking longingly at the opening quaters on my Uncles Devon.

I'll be looking for some for mine soonish...

There is a set on eBay at the moment:

I nearly bought a set at Bustypes back in April for the same amount so the price seems to be about right to me?

between 100-180 is ok for a good set

BUT what you must check is the rubbers!
good frames are a must , but what you find is most sets are from caravelles and above and so have a rubber to fit the chrome trim !

basic vans , in fact only caravelle and above had chrome trim and the rubbers are different ,so they will not fit a basic van and not leak!

check the finish is the same as your van , if there is a lip these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221115122618" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; are for caravelle spec chrome trim and will not work on standard vans!

common mistake by 90% of buyers!

either source some very rare non chrome rubbers or get the caravelle chrome trim to which the outer scrapers are different too!

also worth checking too see if the glass is ' clear ' or ' tinted' ( green factory tint) tinted will say tinted with the other wrighting , clear if not written - at least you will have a match to your van
