Fuel Pump
Hi gwa , you don`t say what is wrong with yours but when mine went wrong it was the the pushrod that runs on a cam from the engine....
This rod had worn down by about 5 mm and was not pushing the lever inside the pump.
It took me ages to find out what the problem was,not sure now what the real length should be but if you take it out and it is worn down there will be a very sharp burr on the end and it will look different to the other end...

did you look under Aircooled or water cooled vw as its listed under water cooled 18358 FUEL PUMP T25 2.0 Air Cooled >12/82 58.50
and appears to be available or if you go to Aircooled and look under type 2 not type 3 as that is a fastback or varient not to be confused with the t25 / t3

If you do go down the electric route, I have mounted mine on the inside edge of the longitudial chassis rail just after the small inline fuel filter. I had to drill two small bolt holes in the rail to secure and earth the pump. I took the opportunity to replace all the fuel lines at the same time as the original ones were quite perished. This was threaded along under the vehicle and up through to the engine bay in the original fuel line location.
I used an old fuel pump relay I had lying around to provide power from the battery, switched by the ignition. I also included a manual switch which acts as a crude anti-theft device. Don't forget to include a fuse for the power.
Let me know if you have any more queries.
