How do I decide a FAIR PRICE for my Syncro FOR SALE?
Hi folks,
I have a 1986 LHD Syncro Westfalia poptop.
How do i decide a fair price? I have absolutely no idea but need to sell soon.
I really would appreciate helpful ideas please.
I am based on the Isle of Wight & ideally would like to speak to another syncro owner - that knows about the mechanics of the syncro. I have always used my syncro as a family campervan - never offroad!
Thanks, Simon

Check Out what others are going for - look on all websites, and compare your bus with others. Be honest with yourself, ask yourself if you would pay the price you're asking. A westy synchro in good nick should fetch good money.

List it on Ebay for auction and advertise the camper on every Vw related site. The final sales price at auction will be 'fair'...ish

Put it up on E Bay Germany and E Bay UK with a very high reserve - like £50,000 and see where the bidding goes to. That will give you an idea of what people are prepared to pay. Then place ads with a realistic price on the forums.

Second that, an auction is the only way to assess the market.
If you look through the for sale pages, just because people are asking those prices, doesn't mean they are selling for that price.
Good luck, you'll no doubt get interest from posting here.

I'd disagree with that. An auction will tell you what two people are willing to pay on a given day/week. It would be different next week, with different people.
A totally original 62 splitty sold at auction for $200,000 in the states a few months back, does that mean that, that 62 splity is now worth $200,000 on another day, in another auction?

Re: How do I decide a FAIR PRICE for my Syncro FOR SALE?
plus no one on this forum would bid because they would know that you are trying to figure out what its worth!
Look at whats out there, compare it to what you have and set a price that you would be happy with and fair, DONT say that it is `very rare`or `easily fixed`, make sure all the syncro specific things work and document it if they do! I mean make sure your diff locks work, that all your gears work, that your vc is in good condition ( there are a few films about how to test it on you tube), If all the syncro bits are there bash plates front and back etc. document it! take as many pictures as you can even maybe your own little film showing a vc test and if you really want to stand out from the crowd BE HONEST!! Most people that are buying a syncro have done a lot of research and know how easy or difficult things are to fix and how much things cost!
use this forum as much as you can as this is usually were people start looking
Good Luck and start by getting some pictures up!!!

Re: How do I decide a FAIR PRICE for my Syncro FOR SALE?
Many thanks everyone!
I will shortly post some piccies etc.
The main problem I am having is that i am not mechanically minded, and have no working knowledge of the use of my syncro nor the mechanics. It was pure luck that my campervan was a syncro!! It has always been used as a campervan, not for offroading.
Perhaps I can arrange to meet up with some of you folks to meet fellow syncro drivers and to ask for some help?!?
Thanks, Simon
