Split charge/ alternator

Post by Barkascsyncro »

Just a quick question about the above, I am currently installing a split charge diode. On the alternator there are two red wires and a blue (the blue terminated seperatly to the reds) one of the reds goes to the starter which has to be removed, what is the other smaller red wire for? It goes into the loom in the engine bay and I'm unable to trace it, will this wire still need to be connected to the alternator?

other one goes to junction box in the engine bay there's a stud there which distributes permanent live to anything that needs it at the back of the van, in a petrol that's the ecu and fuel supply relays, in a diesel it'll be the glow plug and cooling pumps systems- basically it's feed from the battery using the big starter supply cable to piggy back to provide a good current carrying capacity and avoiding routing via the fuse board or ignition switch to reduce loads at the front
so yes needs to be there

Probably Brickwerks for the front but they aren't cheap though.

Someone is selling cheaper ones on Ebay but I don't know how durable they are, or if anyone has tested them yet.

probably a good idea to bin the grease that comes with them (there is never enough anyway) and go for some decent stuff, might improve your chances and wont break the bank
:ok

Fitted. All seems good so far. I'm nit saying there going to be as good as the more expensive items but I shall report back on durability.
