oil question

Post by moojii »

hi guys

so i checked my oil last night and it was just under minimum, got the oil and stuck maybe half a litre in. dipped it again and it was halfway between min and max, went out for a 10 minute spin and came home and parked her up.

Decided to go out about an hour later to have a look around her to decide on what jobs to do first and noticed it had dropped oil from 2 places but previous to this it had NO oil leaks, also there was a large patch of fresh oil on the floor near the exhaust, i was super careful when filling her up so i know i didnt spill any.

Started her up again and the missus noticed a little bit of smoke coming from the rear passenger side which i am guessing was a bit of oil dripping on the exhaust.

i dipped her again tonight and its still midway between the marks so i know i didnt overfill it, what is going on? any ideas??

one liter from min to max
without pictures identifying a leak is impossible
but if it's dripping on the exhaust, that reads like a rocker gasket.

only use mineral oil... as synth and mineral DO NOT MIX

I would...
clean the engine where the leak is suspected, get it up to temp, dust it with talc and see whats leaking.
might just be the gasket or the cover spring has weakened. is the filter on tight?
As for the sudden appearance I think it's just coincidence
