Cooker Lid Won't Stay Up

Post by Lynne »

Image

You can see from the pic that the cooker is in the middle of the cupboard units. The glass lid on the cooker will not stay up, it just keeps closing so no chance of a cup of tea or coffee!! The only way I can see of holding the lid up is to have a C shaped hook and hook one half onto the curtain rail and the other onto the lid. I think the curtain rail might not be man enough for this job though so if you have any ideas on how to keep the lip open I would be grateful! I'm assuming that when it was new, the lid would just have stayed put? Thanks!

try to use the type of fixing for wall wardrobe cupboard or you can get cylinder types

Hi Vera, thanks for this. Someone else mentioned that they have a fold down piece but we definitely don't have that. It looks like the lid should just lift and stay open itself. The link you sent to the item on ebay looks good but I don't know how it would fix to our cooker as there is nowhere to actually put any screws in particularly on the glass lid. Also, as the lid closes flat my guess is that the fixing would stop it from doing this... I don't really want to take the lid off but unless I can fathom something out it might be the only option!!

There are various ways that the lid should stay up so maybe you could take some pictures of it holding it open and someone will recognise the type you have. I have a hinged metal strut that locks it open or folds to shut on my Westfalia and on the previous camper it was a catch that hooked over the open lid attached to the side wall.

Sorry Pete getting you and Vera mixed up

Nothing holds it up at the moment. It looks like the lid of a cooker I used to have years ago where you lift it and it just stays. Over the years the staying power must have got up and gone!!

Paul ....I'll take a pic...

I think the lid is different to the original. There are small holes in front of the cooker lid fixings which may indicate there was something else there before. We have tightened the screws and it stays up a bit better (used to close completely before) but even with this, it would be dangerous to put a kettle or pan on as the lid would lean forward enough to tip it up. (not sure why pic is not right way up - it is on photobucket).

Hi Lynne,

You have an original Reimo sink in grey, but the original grey hob has been replaced by the stainless one you have now.
Any chance you could mackle up some kind of retaining clip/hook yourself as a short term fix?

I think we can make something to hold it - it shouldn't be too much of an issue.. Are the original sinks easy to get hold of? I wonder if we should change it back.. any idea what lid it had whitevan woman?

Thanks for this

You have the original sink, it's the hob that isn't. I have a Reimo interior in my scrapper, it has a spring mechanism at the base of the lid. If I can upload a pic, you will be able to see. (unless someone else can beat me to it  )

I can see now that the holes by the cooker would fit the cooker top you have added the pic of. The cooker top we have is too big really but my guess is they have made huge holes to attach it so it won't look great if we try and remove it now. Long term the cupboards probably need replacing. I wouldn't bother because I like the fact it is original (almost) but there are cracks in the veneer of all of the cupboards. I notice that some people have said they have covered the cupboards with fablon but I'm not sure that this wouldn't start peeling up (this is my recollection from my Blue Peter craft making days!!)
