Devon Conversion - POP TOP replacement??

Post by Charliesbunnies »

Hi

Just purchased a 1981 Devon conversion. Its in a poorly state but runs great. The carpet on the inside of the pop top roof has black mold and is disintigrating. Will i need a full new roof or can this fabric be replaced? I have no idea what the fabric is actually called. Also, i'm worried if i try to remove it it will damage the roof itself.

Any ideas would be most appreciated! :D

not sure what they used but all my devon interior i am currently doing has a dark borwn cord liek fabric on. I have stripped nearly all of it now and it all has been spray glued and have been able to pull it off with a little strength. I can imagine its fixed any different

Have you tried Dettol mildew remover on it? be careful not to get it on your canvas though, it contains bleach.

thats normal for aged carpet, you know its past it when everything in the van gets covered in it, you wont do any harm removing it, just get stuck in but wear a mask as the carp is not good to breath in, well each to their own vices.
if your redoing with simmilar then get good aerosl contact adhesive from the trimmers and make sure it tacks of well before sticking else it will be falling off soon enough.

I did my Devon carpet a couple of months back. To remove it off the fibre glass roof I physically removed the canvas and the trim that holds it into place.

I then scraped off all the old smelly, mouldy and brittle carpet and replaced it with mega van mats stretchy carpet. I found it went on a treat and continued to do the rest of the panels with it.
