Lower arms...cast or pressed?

Post by max and caddy »

So, other than corrosion, ease of repair and cost, what is the difference with early pressed and later cast arms? Is the geometry the same?

Is there a difference between 2wd and syncro's??

I'm interested because I have a set a mint pressed steel off a 2wd and wondered if they'd fit my van

i have the late arms, when i had all my alignment settings done i did not notice different setting for the different arms. Baxters list of settings on BY doesn't mention anything either. The only ball ache with the late set up is that you cant remove the radius rod without dismantling the whole set up as it screws into the lower arm

early pressed arms are way better, the late cast arms are actually one of the reasons why they stopped making the t25 :!:

How's that then? What's the reason for the change? My pressed ones have rusted out on my van but I have a pair of cast ones on there way....just debating if I should put em on my van or the pick up...

The later cast arms are the better ones to have as they are stronger and wont rust as yours have done.

Later arms were cheaper and quicker to make and arguably stronger. As the T3 was an expensive and limited design I would reckon the arms had little to do with its demise, more like the T4 was the culprit! But thats only my opinion .......

i really don`t know which are better i just don`t own any of the cast arms :D but i think that you will find that the reason for the change was a lower production cost

I personally think the demise of the t3 was the engine was in the wrong end in most peoples view, the petrols were thirsty and the diesels....well feeble...and much as I like them...most people didn't by the early90 s.

The later arms are very expensive new but like you say most likely easy to produce...but why change after 6 years or whatever...I gotta say the cast arm looks better but doubt that was the reason!

Sorry Phil...but they are very different, spring fits on the arm on the 2 we'd, but on the damper on the syncro.

Late arms are forged, not cast...big difference in both materials used and component strength!

Ian, I think you should stick a pair up on a CMM and CAM a set up on a CNCMC in aluminium ..... then do the same with a set of uprights and top arms ..... :ok
