Electrolux RM 122 - flame but not cold.

Post by Chuckles »

Hi all, we've got the flame lit fine on our fridge, but it doesn't seem to be cooling at all - how long do we need to leave it before we start to worry? Had it on 12V overnight and absolutely nothing happened, so switched over to gas this afternoon - still nothing :| Any advice would be great, we leave on Tuesday and could do with somewhere to chill our beers!

Thanks, C

The fridge would have flattened the battery in a few hours, if the heating element worked... it is meant to run on 12v from the alternator

turn the fridge upside down for a night
then try again on gas.
Oh....and make sure it's level, normally takes an hour to get icy on the pipe inside the fridge

trust me.. :ok

make sure its back up the right way before trying on gas!

12v element may be duff - easily removed or checked but as stated 12v on all night wont happen- plus if all is correct the 12v will only work with the ignition on and poss the engine running!
the gas thing is usually blocked/partly blocked jet - it can light and look ok but just not have a hot enough flame

Ensure that the spiral baffle is present in the flue also - people tend to leave them out not realizing their purpose.

SPIRAL BAFFLE: Spiral metal device that is hung in the flue tube assembly of the cooling unit.
The baffle causes the heat supplied by the gas burner to stay at the boiler assembly a longer
period of time. This allows the absorption system to work as efficiently on LP gas as other
heat sources.

I've noticed that my fridge is way more sensitive to how level it is forward backwards than its left right. Can park on quite a slope and it good as long as both wheels are at the same height. Just a little off in that respect and it's all heat no cold.
