sorry - another temp gauge problem

Post by tone »

89 2.1 watercooled - temperature gauge gave up the ghost about a year ago - spear just peeped out for a while then finally remained static and out of sight. Not that bothered as its only a weekend van but would like to get it sorted - I'm useless with mechanics but reading similar threads it sounds like the "sender" has packed up - what is a sender ? Is it something you can easily replace ? where is it located ? attached to the thermastat ? Is thermastat on the engine balkhead?

Any help would be appreciated .

The thermostat with the temperature sensor, is on the engine, as it controls the engine temperature.
As you look in the engine bay it is attached next to No 3 cylinder... at the back to the left.

there is a large fat black pipe coming from it to the front of the engine.
The sensor/sender is at the back of the thermostat (not the side) it has two wires coming from it.
you can change it without losing too much coolant...if your quick to replace it with the new one.

brickwerks sell senders/sensors for your van.

Not so fast superspanners..!
to remove the sender you must remove the clip that holds it in... it is advisable to renew the clip and the O ring that seals the coolant inside the engine.
Have all this ready in your left hand as you remove the old one with your right :ok

Bon chance mes ami !
