Fridge repair around South West London
Hi
I'm a newbie just bought an 89 Westfalia California. All running well except the fridge!
Had a look at loads of threads on the forum but don't feel confident in removing the fridge without supervision. Anyone know anywhere around South West London/West London/Surrey area I can take the bus for someone to have a look. It seems to work on the 12v battery when driving but I can't get it to light with the gas (I can't hear a clicking noise when the button is pressed). Not tried on the mains hookup yet.
All help greatfully received.
Cheers

Sill question, but have you checked the gas is turned on? there is a isolation valve in the cupboard next to the fridge. If it is, is there gas in the main tank( do the hobs work?)

Thanks
Hob is working and have tried all the valve positions and the tank has gas in. Think I can hear the gas coming through as well but it won't ignite.
Anything else I should consider?

The pilot light for the fridge is really small so I'm surprised you can hear the gas.
Are you pressing the round button whilst it is clicking?
Where abouts are you? Twickenham?

You might have to wait a while, as if it hasn't been used in a while it might have a bit of air in the pipe that you will need to purge out first. So just leave it 'clicking' for a little while and it might suddenly light. Also, if you go and try it in the dark have a look in the sight glass (bottom corner inside fridge) and see if you can see the little blue spark for the ignitor. At least you will know then if you are getting a spark

Pressing the button, can't hear any clicking and perhaps hearing the gas is wishful thinking. I'm near Twickenham Green

Sorry, I miss read your previous post. Have you checked the fuse on the B pillar behind driver seat (unless you you have ABS)?

Sounds like you need to pull out the fridge and check the igniter. I've had one burn out before which was obvious just by looking at it plus the fact it filled the camper with smoke!
Just before you do try cleaning the terminals on the fuse holders and fuses to make sure the are getting a good connection or test them with a volt meter.

Re: Fridge repair around South West London
Let's go back a step. It is not clear to me what procedures you have followed. When gas has not been used for a while the fridge gas electrics get rusty (not literally). When you switch over from hook up/battery mode and press the gas switch at the top of the fridge it should start clicking straight away. Is that happening? If not there is the first issue. If it is and you have turned the gas on, when you hold the round starter button in a much louder clicking should occur. It can then take some time for the igniter to light the gas. Once it fires up the clicking stops.
It does not always stay fired up the first time and the quieter clicking can start again. If it does press and hold the round starter button again until the clicking stops. It could start clicking again. Repeat the procedure. It should stop clicking again which means it is working. You should also see the flame through the tiny (in my case) blue window in the bottom left hand corner of the fridge. Good luck mate.

Cheers Patrick. When I press the gas button at the top of the fridge there is no clicking sound. Still no sound when I press the round button. No ignition. ??????
