Build thread

Post by andyb »

Hi

I like looking at other folks builds so thought I should make the effort and put some stuff up.

I bought the van last September

Image

so its been a slow resto. No way can I cover everything that Ive done but heres a general gloss over

Yep this van had rust ! lots of it - heres the damage under the hi top - the o/s sill was gone, the n/s wheel arch, both steps, lots around windows and multiple other places
Image

so it was back to the bare metal
Image

Image

drivers door was too far gone had to replace
Image

so with rust cut out - a lot of welding done - was primed - then filled and faired
Image

filler was to smooth out panels for top coat
Image

a total of six coats of primer went on next 3 of medium build then another 3 epoxy
Image

Image

then came top coat - windows starting to go back in and new seals all round - I tell you the tailgate
window seal is a real bitch !! needed a new windscreen too cos broke the old one
Image

Image

heres a pic mid "under the dash" - gawd was fun working on that wiring - the van dash pod is something of an enigma
and Ive vowed to do some hard wiring at some point to remove the dodgy flaky plastic pcb thing -
I changed out blower motor and resistor, I did the headlight mod and installed new hella headlights, also fed power to cd player, cig socket etc etc from new cable - ended up running 3 35amp cables under van - any ways could write a book on just this part.
Image

cab begining to look more presentable
Image

CS engine and ABF gearbox out
Image

swap over gearbox to reduce high revving
Image

new gearbox attached to 1Y caddy lump and in the van
Image

engine up and running now - still ironing out bits n pieces

still got hitop to refurb and get back on

both front calipers siezed - gotta fix them

so its close to getting rolled out onta the road and MOT'd

then its time for interior to be refurbed refitted ...... is a factory Reimo conversion

thanks for looking - these vans are a learning curve that leads to an obsession !!
