is there any way to tell, visually if an engine is an AHU or 1Z as im struggling to find the engine code on the engine i've taken out of my van.

or it it possible to tell by the part code of the cylinder head? or another part possibly?

You need to find the number on the block on the flat part between injectors 3 and 4. AHU pumps had extra "ribs" on the body and were generally bosch 971, while 1z pumps didn't have these ribs and were generally 985 series. If you can't read the block code can you read the bosch number on the pump? Of course if the pump has been changed then this doesn't hold but may give you a clue...

nice one.. found it eventually.. with use of some sand paper lol

1Z 477 410

im guessing this would be pretty standard for all 1Z engines?? of would i need ot find one with the exact code match to replace??

Hello,

if you're just replacing the block and head then an AHU is a direct replacement (and slightly better) - either a 1z or an AHU will fit fine and the pump/turbo/ECU combination you have will work.

just picked up a 1Z Mk3 Golf engine with all pump, turbo, alternator etc all included... even threw in an intercooler also (mine didnt have one)

just need to swap the sump over and then hope the rain sods off so i can get to work on it again :))
