Motorway Services - the Best of

Post by Silky »

With a doggy and kids in tow, we generally stop off at services en route for the normal wee stops and to stretch the dog's legs ready for the next part of the journey. We stopped at Stafford services the other day and it was a delight to have a pond and fountain to walk around, lots of walks and green space and picnic tables in the sun - far better than trying to get the dog to relieve herself in a crowded car park.

Any recommendations for other service stations with a bit of greenery or something more than the inevitable car park, petrol and McDonald's?

Tebay is the nicest I have been on and I have done most over the years. Warwick is not too bad on the M40

I have used both Tebay West & East and I agree that they are the best UK motorway services. Tebay Services are privately owned so that is probably the reason.

Taunton Deane northbound (M5) is about the only one that I would stop at out of choice. Otherwise I try and find places that are adjacent to motorways and much cheaper.

There are still a few of the old transport cafes around. Not been for a while but Bridgwater and Cannock spring to mind. Also the Newcott Chef on the A303 in Devon has been consistently good over the last 30 years and is still owned by the same family (its not a full on transport cafe though and trucks can't stop there). Also on the A 303 Cartgate has a decent cafe and plenty of room for kids to run around and dogs to pee. Its also open 24 hours as well.
