Early DG Temperature Gauge
My gauge needle always sat off center....effectively giving a higher than normal reading .......but recently the led has started to flash after a few miles.....two questions......does the led take its cue from needle position, or is it from a separate sensor??
Also, I removed the gauge to have a look......should the needle be 'crooked'......you can also see a kink in it. The kink may explain the off center reading, I guess....

I believe the led flashes to warn you of low water level - so completely separate to the temperature.
No idea on the kink!
The wiki has a lot of decent info on the cooling system (I know because I've spent most of the day reading it!)

The LED takes it's signal to flash from the 2 pronged level sensor in the header tank, while there is coolant bridging the 2 prongs it should stay off (test the wiring by disconnecting the plug and bridging the 2 terminals with a short piece of wire ... the led shouldn't flash, disconnect one side of the wire and it should simulate low coolant).
Your needle is bent, take the single wire off the temp sender and touch it to earth ... that should be pointing straight to maximum on the gauge.

That did cross my mind.......worryingly, if it was straight, it would hard over to the right
Deffo had problems in the past, judging by the 4 temp senders in the glovebox when we bought it....
Got a replacement on the way hopefully midweek......so will check its position then.
The coolant level is ok......LED goes thru its test sequence OK......Isn't the LED used for both coolant level and coolant overheating?
