Rear diff lock question

Hi

I'm trying to free my diff lock for this weekend, I got it going earlier this year but it was still a bit slow and soon stopped working again.

I've now put a few hours working it back and forth but the actuator still will not move it (the actuator doesn't feel weak).

I'm not sure I have the diff lock moving fully in and out, does anyone know if the diff lock can mesh at any point or only at given intervals on the cogs?

I've been using ramps to put it up and wondered if I need to use axel stands so I can rotate things into the right place?

Yes, axle stands will allow you to turn a wheel so that the diff lock can engage.

Having now lined up the trans to allow the diff lock to work, I cannot beleave it randomly lined up the first time I worked on it.

All done now, its very free but still a bit reluctant to work via the actuator. The main thing is I have a diff lock for SP.

Glad you got it sorted, I need to fix mine as its never worked since getting my Syncro.

It's certainly nice to see the green light come on, not a difficult job to unsieze but one of those crappy horrible under the car jobs.

Worth doing though, it's one of the things that give the syncro it's off roadability.

The only time my green light lit up was when I was testing the switch lol. I will get it fixed though before the winter arrives.

will have mine sorted when my stuff from Brickwerks and Aiden arrives. Im replacing my non locker front with a locker from Aiden, and the rear, ive been putting off since I got the van, thought it was going to be siezed, but to my suprise its nice and free but the actuator is duff, so should be nice easy fix, fingers crossed. I suspect the bulb may be duff in the switch unit though as it didn't light up when I bridged the switch terminals.

make sure all the bulbs are working in the panel as a first job. it makes troubleshooting the locks much easier when you know the lights are doing their thing.

The same as the dash bulbs.

Bulbs checked and the Brickworks goodies arrived, so set to my rear locker today. New bracket, actuater, roll pin, circlip and all went together well. What a tw4t those two long set bolts are to do up when your 7mm spanners are 2000 miles away! Went to test and.........nothing. Drove bus around in circles.......nothing. Jacked up one rear wheel and turned,,,,,,,Nada/Nothing. So it appears im a bit weak on suction. One way valve has had a good dowse with releasing oil and a good squirt down the tubes. Bingo! Green light on, switch in and out and although a bit slow to come on it did. Engine off, left for five minutes while dropping the jack, tried again nothing.
Given up for the day, due to a bottle of San Miguel calling. Will play again tommorow. Any tips? About the difflock, not the beer!

Oh and the diff lock pin is nice and free!

Did you try it on the move again? They seem quite fussy with regard to the rotational position. Fingers crossed the magic fairies come in the night and sort it, I often hope for that with jobs that should have worked, they rarerly see to come though.
