Lake District and Yorkshire Dales

Hi all

Me and the better other half are looking at a 7 day trip taking in some of the highlights of the Lakes and the Yorkshire dales.

We have already been to the lakes for a few days over new year and stopped in and around Derwent water and Keswick and that was beautiful.

We're probably looking at 3 nights in the lakes and 3/4 on the Dales with a day trip into York itself.

Anyone recommend decent camp sites or must see sites and places in the 2 locations?

Malham is lovely. Two pubs, a gorge (scar), a waterfull, a tarn and Malham Cove. Great walk that takes in all of them. Campsite by Malham Scar or Riveside in the village

Muker is nice with a great walk to Kidson Falls via Keld. One nice pub in Muker

Hawes is also a good location and village. Plenty of pubs, ice cream, chippy etc with a nice little walk to Hardraw Force behind the Green Dragon pub (nice old stone flagged pub) with Aysgarth and Askrigg falls further down the road

Area round Grassington is nice too. Campsite in nearby Thresfield and a great walk on the River Warfe to Burnsall and back via Linton, Burnsall, Hebden and Grassington. All with pubs

Bolton Abbey is near to Grassington and there is a great walk from Barden Tower (free parking if you get there early) to Bolton Abbey and back via the strid. Or park at Bolton Abbey (£5ish)

There is also a campsite at nearby Appletreewick but it's a bit pricey imo

It all depends what you want to do. I could waffle on for ages if you like walking

Small rustic site in the dales at Horton-in-Ribblesdale for walking Pen-y-Ghent or Ingleborough or just to ride the settle-carlisle railway

Now the lakes

Coniston Hall campsite for walking the Old Man of Consition and sampling the local real ale (Coniston Bluebird Brewery)

Wasdale for the most stunning and mountainous location in the Lakes. Numerous choice of fells, Scafell Pike, Yewbarrow, Pillar, Kirk Fell, Great Gable, Illgil Head etc etc Wasdale Head Inn too

Gillside Farm Campsite at Glenridding. For walking Helvellyn, place fell, dollywaggon pike etc or taking a boat on ullswater, or taking a boat to Howtown and walking back on the lakeshore path. Pubs in glenridding too You also get to navigate the Kirkstone Pass

Borrowdale near Keswick is stunning too. A few campsites to chose from

Hawkshead is a nice village too with about 5 pubs and an easy walk up latterbarrow with views of Windermere

Langdale is also stunning. National trust site at the head of the valley. 3 pubs nearby (Old and New Dungeon Ghyll and Stickle Barn). langdale Pikes for walking, or Bowfell, Crinkle crags or just a stroll alongside the nearby 1 in 3 pass to the beautiful Blea Tarn that you can walk to and round in about 1 hour

If national trust site is full then Chapel Stile campsite at the beginning of the valley is good too. Nearby wainwright inn and Britannia Inn at Elterwater. Good walks from there to head of Langdale valley, or along the river by elterwater lake to Skelwith Force. or even a walk up Loughrigg fell

Walks are good, love our walking!
But we have had to rein in the long slightly more difficult walks as the other half is expecting.
