When I start from cold and engine warms up, temperature gauge gradually move to correct position at 12 o'clock. After a couple of minutes, the gauge goes back to cold and stays there. Is this a faulty temperature sender ? I have renewed the thermostat a couple of months ago and the gauge was indicating perfectly, the fault has only recently occurred.
Thanks

Early or late cooling system ? If early take the spade terminal off the sender and touching it to earth should send the guage to the max. On the late system remove the plug from the temp guage sensor and bridging it with a piece of wire should also send that to the max.
That's just tested the wiring and guage itself .... if that checks out ok and the problem persists it's most l;ikely the sensor itself.
