Anyone has a Cruise control on a TDI?
Hi there.
Currently doing a 1Z conversion to my camper and was wondering what do i need to have cruise control? The donor car (97' mk3 golf) had no cruise control, bus as i understand it's just a matter of electronics.
Thanks

Hi, you just need a working vehicle speed signal (eg. RJES), the special version of the indicator stalk for cruise wired up to the ECU, and the right soft coding on the ECU.

What kind of indicator stalk, or from what car can be used/suites the best?
Anyone has done it before? Would be nice to see some photos

The T3 had cruise as an option, that stalks works OK. Or similar stalks from VW's and Audis of the same time, which shared the same steering column housing and switch pattern. eg.

Thanks. I imagine these are hard to find. Will have a look...
My 32b passat syncro has a similar stalk (switch looks the same, but the leg is straight). I guess it should fit. It has a different vacuum based system though.

Yes I think that one may be OK, though there were different versions of the CCS electronics and hardware, the stalks shared a common function and connector.

Hello,
I couldn't find a stalk so I made my own switch- you just need a double momentary switch and the (excellent) rjes speed sensor - I can explain the wiring if you want. On the picture the momentary switch "1" is for "set" and "II" is for "resume", the red button above it is a cancel button, and I've got an illuminated holding switch you can't see which switches on the cruise system.

not pretty but it works great

Cheers Ewen,
Wiring diagram would be nice
I believe canceling should be by presing cluch or brake pedal?
Wiring diagram would be nice

Re: Anyone has a Cruise control on a TDI?
Yes you are right - I have them too - rjes also makes the brackets for the switches. A cancel button makes the ecu "forget" the set speed but the brake and clutch switches don't. There's probably no point in that button but I mimicked the original switch operations.
Away at the mo but will post up a diagram when I get back. I probably still have one of those switches in the cupboard of doom if you want one...

I can wait, at the moment the engine is not in the car yet, but i am planning ahead all the wiring. Any calibration is needed to the rjes speed sensor? Or you just install and connect and it works? Or you have to set up/program the ecu?

Re: Anyone has a Cruise control on a TDI?
You need to activate cruise via vag-com - that's easy. You also need to calibrate both brake switches - when you get there I can help with that if you need - various ways of doing it

Re: Anyone has a Cruise control on a TDI?
Perfect. But first i need to sort out the wiring. As i understand the swiches on/off, set and resume connect to the ecu so how many wires i will need?

If you need the wiring diagram for your engine send me a PM as I may be able to assist.
