Danbury Autoroof Gas strut Position Help Please.

Post by hettyspagetti »

Hi Im new to the club we have recently purchased a 1982 Aircooled Danbury with what used to be an auto roof the electric mechanism is long gone but since then it looks like its been butchered and bodged alot of times.
If any body out there knows of what position and what size the gas struts should be when converted from electric to gas strut powered it would be much appreciated.
The struts that are on are 445mm long the gas chamber is 18mm in diameter the bar is 8mm they are basically the exact struts that are used on the tail gate which do not look long enough in the positions that have been drilled but they seem to be putting alot of pressure on the hinges.

Also if anybody knows where i could get some new hinges from would be much appreciated

Unless Any body knows if the origional motor and mechanisms can be bought any where and i can restore her properly.

Hi, I have the same problem. Not been able to source the motor or worm gears. There is an old thread here
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=54644" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and I have just pm'd ricicles to see if he still has the details of gas struts.

Good luck
