Grille spraying

Post by Downend t25 »

I'm thinking of spraying my 2 grilles silver (hopefully looking chrome'ish when finished). Anyone else tried this and recommend any paints?

hi
i sprayed mine black a few months ago, didnt use any primer etc, see link

http://www.irishkeet.com/vw/2006-04%20- ... %20sml.jpg

Im about to do the back of the wingmirrors and ordered this off ebay so the paint has good contact

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Should really have used it for the grill but as it was black already it seemd fine

good luck

Let me know how it goes will you? I've just been to B&Q to see what they've got but all of there stuff is for indoors so looks like a trip to Halfords.

Grille looks nice. Did you have your headlamps converted?

The one my pal did looks good . The only bits he primed were where he repaired damage. The rest was de-greased, rubbed down with wet& dry and spayed with Halfords Matt Black

Think I'll try a bit somewhere, but I would prefer satin black,I don't know why people like matt black,it looks like primer and doesn't ware very well.I suppose it's a modern thing.

Saw a silver one at vanwest, think it looks better black, but thats only my opinion. Someone at one of the shows sells stainless covers for the grills.

I have tried to get Satin Black in halfwits," never stocked it" was all I got. Tried in several other places. Met with a blank look

Grille/Mirrors/Bumper spraying

Post by Fritz »

This fine shot is our first Aircooled camper "Marvins Helmet' and during it's transformation had all grilles, mirrors, bumpers, dashboard etc painted silver, they were all keyed up with a good dose of 'scotch brite pads' and then plastic primed before painted with clear over base 2 pack stratos silver, but any good quality paint from a can would do.

I thought it worked well,
