Oil/coolant cooler question

Post by lloydy »

inserted into the cooler is a plastic insert, mine is slightly broken around the top hole, as you can see from the picture, is this likely to cause a issue?

Hi Lloydy,

I don't have that plastic insert on mine and it is not leaking - I think the o-ring is the most important thing, but I may be wrong

I wouldn't worry about the missing bit.

FYI, When you replace the heat-exchanger, the manual says to seal it to the flange with a bead of sealant just outside the rubber o-ring.

I thought the main reason for the insert was to make the oil go a certain route?

Thaks for the tip Andy, on a similar subject i'm hoping the gasket between block and cooler bracket will hold up, as it's pretty fused to the block

I've a spare which I can send with the bits tomorrow, just carefully remove all traces of the old one, making sure no particles get into the oil galleries.

I had a look at that gasket the other day, it almost looks like part of the block, hopefully if I can get a blade under it it'll ping off as you say
