1.9d stop solenoid - just wont !

Post by matt brighton »

Hi

It just wont turn off... :|

Having transplanted an aef engineinto my 1.6cs the last job proves to be the most difficult

It wont stop,,,, despite replacing the spring in the solenoid "plunger " and buying a new solenoid today too.

Its getting 12v when activated and 0v when not - can hear the valve clicking and activates when out of the pump

Can hear it clicking and it operates fine outside of the pump (lucas) but the van starts with or without power to the solenoid

The engine is an aef from a 98 skoda felecia

Tried all combinations of springs and solnoide

HELP ?????? - its got me stumped...

Off to skoda dealers to buy another solenoid to be 100% sure its the right one

Strange indeed!

Glad your engine runs OK, but I'm out of ideas on this problem I'm afraid. All I can think of is perhaps there could be debris on the solenoid seat preventing it from sealing properly.

Did the engine turn off OK in the donor Sko-da? Did you take the solenoid out to do the wiring modifications? Given that the engine will start and idle with the solenoid disconnected, will it drive? I ask because it doesn't take much fuel to idle, so you might be able to differentiate between "closing but letting by a bit" and a full scale "staying open full bore".

I assume that both the other solenoids are disconnected too.

I've had a good look at my spare pump, but that hasn't given me any clues. If you don't find a solution, I'll take the solenoid out of my spare, to see if that gives me any ideas.

It is beyond me also, as I said I had the same problem but mine was sorted by fitting the spring in the solenoid :?

Dear colin and Kit

Thank you chaps for the responses.

After 2 days heartache
in-out - in out - in out - in out - in out - in out -

and and non stop fettlin or related components -and the consequent bleeeding of the system by me sucking and drinking diesel off the bleed valve due to a faulty bulb one way pump ;;;;;; it transpires that the motor factors gave me the wrong lucas stop solenoid valve !!!!

Correct one fitted just now and all good -.... phew !

There are 2 types of lucas stop valves for this pump and just my luck was given one that fitted but didnt; for some reason stop the fuel passing.

I tried to eliminate the compatibility issue by going to a skoda main dealer for the solenoid - the list price of the SOLENOID ALONE is £129 +vat

I told the head of parts dept he was wrong and suspected that he was quoting me for the whole pump, but after giving him the chassis no of the donor car he said that correct.

Motor factors = £10 - 15 quid.

The van's now starting and stopping - and MOT due monday.

Thanks again for all the advice -

I will post how I get on with fitting the corsa c electric power steering rack, but feel I need a break from the spanners beafoe tackling that project.
