porsche brake conversion

Post by scaltura »

Hi

Would just like to know if anyone has done a 944 rear disc conversion , as I have picked some up complete with hubs and drive shafts for a bargain .

I'm planning to use the porsche hubs as I will be fitting teledials or cookie cutters .

Is there anyone who can shed any light on this ?

cheers

better of with parts from the later porsches ie boxter 993/996 as they use larger and wider discs and parts are more available in good condition ,

The thing is I already have the brakes , hubs and shafts from a 944 .

I've not stripped it all down yet to see the stub axle bolt configuration etc.

I'm hoping to use the porsche 944 stubs and hubs as I have porsche wheels , which would eliminate having to use adaptors and in my understanding would allow me to use wheels with a low et , I'm trying to find someone who may have done something along these lines to give me an idea of any pitfalls I may come across , as I would like to strip and have it all bolted up in 1 day , not nessisarily finnished but as long as I can have the van rolling and finnish off the niggles like cables and the likes .

I may be a bit hopeful in this timescale , thats why I was asking for a bit of a heads up for any pitfalls .

cheers

which brakes do you have the early 944 na or the later type with the bigger discs which come with the alloy 964 / 944 brembo calipers, i have only done the front brakes on my van using 993 monoblock calipers and 33mm merc discs onto original hubs the only problem is this way its adds mm to your offset so you need big offset wheels or you run into clearance issues on the top balljoint arm if using rims over 7.5 inch , if you have the alloy brembos have a closer look at the stainless mounting plate under the pads as they corrode under the plate and its near on impossible to remove mounting screws as they easily round of when undoing unless you heat up the caliper which ruins the seals and can get quite costly to repair if you dont do this the pads wont fit unless you machine the pads smaller if its the steel calipers you have i really would not bother

Hi Faggie , thanks for taking the time to reply .

It is the single piston n/a calipers that run on the sliders, as I said I have the stubs and hubs too , I'm looking to use the 944 hubs so I'll have 130 pcd , these are for the rear , I'm planning in just using adaptors for the front .

Bigger brakes may come later for the front

What I'm looking for is knowledge on the stub axle bolt pattern in terms of marrying with the t25 trailing arm and the outer cv fitting to the hub etc , I'll be at the garage tomorrow with the porsche hubs etc. and I hope to find some time to get them stripped down to measure up track width difference stub to disc/drum and get a better idea .

As with using the 944 rear hubs (if I can) may allow me to use wheels with a low et

thanks again

please keep your thoughts coming , greatly appreciated :ok
