Wiring an Electric Fuel Pump

Hi all,

Engine is a 2.0 cu
Mechanical pump leaking petrol in to my sump ! So thats the reason.


Going to be installing an electric fuel pump tomorrow. Just wanted to confirm what I already think is right really..if that makes sense....

1.Install as close to the fuel tank as possible.
2.Install a fuel filter before the pump.
3.Keep it the same level as the bottom of the fuel tank.
4.Use new fuel lines.
5.Use proper fuel line clips
6.Install a relay and wire a cut off to the oil pressure switch or positive side of coil..(NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS)
7.Use wire that is a higher voltage than you need..(Current drops the further the run)
8.Run fuel lines through a regulator.

Anything I have missed....

As stated above..Im not the worlds best auto electrician..I understand the principles but am mechanically minded than a sparky...
Pump current draw is 5 amps..have purchased a HELLA fuesed 15amp relay and am using 15 amp wire.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram I can follow ??

If you use the correct pressure pump then I don't think you don't need a regulator.

There is a little bit on Wiki about choice of pump.

Also are you going to take the old mech pump off? - if so you need a blanking plate to go over the hole that's left.

Think there was a wiring diagram on the JK forum - not sure where but a search might bring it up

Thankyou for the reply. I have removed the mechanical one and fitted the blanking plate. Mounted the pump and fitted the fuel lines.
Have decided to fit the regulator as I have been talking to a car racing company on my travels through work. The gent told me it is a must to fit a regulator otherwise you will damage the carb. The working pressure on a 34/36 DFEV carb he tells me is about 2psi...2.5psi at the most. So have taken his advice.

Im just waiting for my cylinder heads to come back now. Have had them reconditioned with new guides and seats.

Fair enough - thought you were using standard carbs.

Interested to see how the old fuel pump comes off as at the moment can't see how to get to the uppermost bolt.
