Shopping advice needed

Post by Fulldog »

I'm going to try and find a half decent syncro for regular use plus a few camping trips. Not easy from what i've read so far but that's not a reason to give up before i've even started.
Anyway, i'm looking for some help from the experts amongst you for things to look out for. Common problem areas, things that might look untidy but aren't too bad to fix and those things that might seem a minor problem but could end up costing loads to put right.

Also, any recommendations of places to look (other than the vehicles for sale forum on these pages) would be great.

Thanks up front for any help that you give - Gary

I've just bought a RHD Syncro Caravelle, after a couple of months searching. During that time, I would check the following websites every day - this one, Volkszone, Brick-yard, thesamba (uk only), Pistonheads, Carsandclassics, and gumtree. Work out how to search on the various sites - they don't always use the same 'sorting' system, and not every vendor uses the obvious title. It would be easy to search for "VW T25 Syncro", but they're rarely listed that way!
Put up a wanted advert up on here, and hopefully something will come along. You don't state what sort of van you want (camper, tin-top, RHD, LHD, etc), so think about that when you write your advert. Also get some idea how much you want to spend.
Last thing - Syncrospares have a RHD Syncro camper in stock at the moment. I've seen it, and it looks okay to me.

I've agreed to buy it, but not picked it up yet. It's the gold/beige one that was on ebay (briefly) and pistonheads. It was mentioned in a thread titled 'nice van'. Not a pop-top - I decided that I need a bus most of the time, and a camper sometimes, and so bought accordingly.

Will let you know when I actually have it. Sorry Fulldog - didn't mean to hijack your thread. Did you check out the camper at Syncrospares?

I had a look on syncrospares but only saw a TISHCER XN. Not really what I was looking for that one.
And i'm not worried about taking the thread off on a tangent. I'm still in sponge mode soaking up all the info at the moment and sometimes it's good just to see what else is out there even if it's not for sale. Gives me an idea of what to aim for.

There are half a dozen on Ebay at the moment. Take your pic, but make sure it's a tidy one.
