Is it possible to get a correct spare ignition key cut for my 86 Devon Camper ? It only came with one set of keys. The one key for the ignition opens all the doors as well. I duly had another cut by our local locksmith, but although this one will unlock the doors, it won't work in the ignition. I was a bit suspect whether it would work, as the blank he cut it from, which he said was a correct VW blank, is actually a bit shorter at the top. The original appears to go into the ignition lock futher. The original is very worn and there are no visible numbers on it, just JMA. There is another genuine VW key that came with the keys, which looks exactly the same but is much shorter in length and that won't open anything. I'm panicking in case the key gets lost while I am out somewhere and I get stuck. My friend with an 89 Autosleeper has had exactly the same problem getting another key cut. Is this something that one can sort out without a new ignition barrel ? I did look at the helpful link about locks.
