Hi Maddy
What is the overall condition of your van = rough, average, good, minty, or show winner ?
I ask because the 2.0Ltr CU is the more desirable of the Aircooled vans and there is an Aircooled fan base, so it might be better, in view of the huge amount of money (and time) it would cost to pay someone to do it (and I bet you will have a hell of a job finding someone to do it) to sell it and buy a ready to use Diesel van

Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Hi there
Just like to let you know, did the same conversion and had lots of problems with dvla.
When you change fuel type you have to inform them and that when the fun starts.
I had to have the mot station confirm that a diesel had been fitted,no how good the install was just the fuel type.
regards
wayne

possibly . whats your preference on the engine fitted.
basically the idea would be to fit a setup straight from another van .
1.6 d being cheapest but slow.
if you want turbo then you need a turbo to start with .
1.7d is better than a 1.6 ,
whichever , once fitted you can decide if you want to change the engine from standard , but going from n/a to turbo or above 1.6 will mean another gearbox.
its poss you can use your gearbox , but not sure how a 1.6 will pull it .

Sorry if this has been covered before as its not relevant to your question...
Have you considered LPG'ing the petrol engine? A damn sight cheaper and less hassle to get economy if thats what you're after....
If you're dead set on diesel, then i think you should aim to get a 1.9td (AAZ) in at the minimum - or a TDI if you can stretch to it. The reason i say that is because going to all the hassle of changing an engine you may as well put the best in...
Having said all that, Billy numbers is providing you with the easiest and cheapest route - transplant from a donor vehicle into your vehicle...
Good luck,
Ringo

Re: t25 conversion petrol to diesel, HeLP!
How long do you intend keeping it?
How many thousands of miles are you going to do??
how many miles have you done each year so far in it??
A quality TD conversion, drive in drive out thats not going to need "adjustments" will prob set you back the thick end of 5k.. (yes I know its poss to do it cheaper with much work done yourself etc etc.. but be realistic, factor in a gearbox refresh at least, all the cooling system needs installing etc...its quite a bit of work...)
At current fuel prices its going to take approx 50k miles to pay for itself.....

well the plan is to head to europe then just keep going, plan on being away for a very very long time,
sounds like i might be better off with a 1.9 over the 1.6 turbo
i know its a big job, but be worth doing, just want a good reliable van thats gona set me up for life
