Camping in van at Clumber park yorkshire

Post by walchy »

Hi had day trip to Clumber park today lovely place and would love to camp there. Has anyone been camping in van there. I read on web site they have a tent only site. I noticed today they have a caravan club site. Forgive my ignorance on caravan club but dies this mean you have to pay a membership to the caravan club and do they welcome camper vans on their sites?

Quite a few years ago we camped in the walled garden part in our T25. Clumber park is brill. there is an info plaque by the lake showing the stately home which was demolished to avoid death duties. The footings still exist and the lake has a dock where they kept the scale model galleon of which there are photos. Apparently the toffs would loose off a few cannon shots at the galleon when they had been having a boozy afternoon. Clumber park is a perfect place to take a picnic or take bikes on back of bus (though I seem to remember you can hire bikes there too in season.)

The caravan club site at Clumber does allow camper vans (I think they all do?) but it's always well booked in advance. Many moons ago (about 30 years back) we used to wild camp in Clumber for weekends but I think it's frowned upon now :wink:
What a long strange trip it's been

We campervanned a couple of years ago when we went to an open air show and we are Club members. The site is not really our cup of as we prefer CLs or wild camping.
Are we going on anything else?

Walled garden is now a walled garden again and there is no campsite. I'm sure you could find somewhere to hide, other then using the caravan club site, but the usual discresion applies on privately owned land.

We camped at a site in Worksop that's behind the cricket club. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/revie ... revid=2312" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It was nice and peaceful considering it's in the centre of town. It was a nice stroll along the canal too. We then drove the few miles to the park (free entry for us being NT members) and cycled around the park from there...picnic by the van too
