holdsworth pop top roof '80 van

Post by bitsumishi »

Hi

My pop top roof seems to be slightly uneven, being lower at the front than at the back when elevated on a flat surface. This does not particularly bother me, though when attempting to adjust it to sit level I have noticed a screw on each supporting strut. When tightened/relaxed they seem to do nothing - has anyone got any idea what these screws do/should do?

Also, has anyone replaced their struts for this roof type? How much do they roughly cost?

Thanks.

Rob.

Hi
Sounds like the front gas struts are worn and not elevating the front end of the roof to the same extent as the rear... have you measured the amount of strut showing and compared to ones at back?
These struts need a little TLC at times, a clean, spray of WD 40, and wipe over with oily rag! As do the mounting points. Check nothing is catching inside to stop the front elevating to its full extent.
If you need new struts try here info@campershop.co.uk

Cheers, I think the struts have pretty much had it! Tried the WD40 which made it worse! Will email campershop, though might just prop the front up with a couple of bits of cut timber!!
