Hi I have a T25 1.6 TD
It's been burning oil like mad and after a long load of problems I have decided to get a new engine -
I did think about a recon 1.6 TD - anyone know the best place to get one?? I spoke to a guy on the phone a while ago and swear he was either Bromley or Essex but can't remember who it was for the life of me.
A mate suggested I go for a 1.9 td now but don't I then need a new gear box etc?
How much should you roughly be looking at for a recon engine plus fitting?
Please help a desperate vw man

I was charged 350quid for labor. I paid the same for the engine. Personally I'd lose or sell the 16 and definately go for a 19d. Cracking engine
T25 1985-19D water cooled. owned her for three years now. On second engine, VW Caddy 19diesel.

Re: New engine for T25 any advice?
theres not much in it a good 1.6 would be better than a 1.9 any day!
http://vwenginerecon.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; reconditioned mine new head etc cant fault them, proper job. I was not so impressed with the local company who fitted it but that is by the by. Get an engine off them have it palleted down and fitted locally (actually you would probably have to send yours up first). £1300 inc for the recon AAZ, but that was already the engine in there.
I'd say unless you have someone who can (really) iron out the wrinkles in the 1.6 to 1.9 and you have a good donor then go for it, most people don't have this as a starting point.
Elite make engines go again. they may be nearer/cheaper
