Exhaust Heat Exchangers - Are they Needed?

Post by Mickyfin »

Mine are rotten, and was simply wondering if I can remove them, but if so, do I need to bung the exhaust hole, or is it not a straight through hole?

Reason I ask is Im going to be replacing my complete exhaust system over time by buying a part at a time as funds allow, then once I have the complete system including fitting kit, and spare studs, extractors, and helicoil etc, I will fit the new pipes.

I noticed that Mr Baxters SS complete system does not have the provision for the heat exchangers, so would be interesting in hearing your experiences if you are running without any.

Thanks :D

Mine hasn't had the hot air pickup for the engine air intake all the time I've had it (I recently found out that the stainless system fitted is Andy's old JP one, from the 'nauts group-buy years ago)

Ok it splutters a bit when cold but has never failed to start. I put that down to a knackered pull-down unit!

Cheers, I have managed to fix the couple of leaks in the exhaust today, so no more blowing for now, but certainly leaning towards Mr Baxters SS Syncro exhaust. I bet the postage will be a killer too :(
