Fuel Tank and pipe replacement

Post by DanTheDoc »

Hi,

Say I was going to go a bit mad and replace everything to do with the fuel tank and pipework in that area, can anyone tell me exactly what I would need?

I'm not planning on changing the expansion tanks though or the balance line.

Thanks!!

What year is your van ? Early vans have a larger (steel) filler tube therefore the tank is different. If you're swapping the neck as well then go later and fit plastic.

Ah yeh, should've included that info really.

It's a 1989 petrol carb so I know the correct parts to get, just wondering if anyone could give a list of the best bits to replace whilst I'm under there?

Basically, I want to have all the bits with me when I do the job so I don't start something I can't finish!

Thanks!

Renew the grommets, their short rubber hoses, the filler neck seal and the filler rubber flange. Check and grease the clutch pipe and front handbrake cable, waxoyle under the walkthough :ok

I know things kind of snowball when you are doing stuff like this but the tank blocks access to several areas so have a close look at the front hand brake cable/front to rear brake pipe/power steering pipework etc....Grease everything and replace whats is needed as you don't want to be dropping the tank again any time soon.
