Heaven - well our idea of it from a camp........

Post by Nij »

I recently won a trailer for my race car in Millom (Lake District).
It was obvious what was going to happen really wasn't it (I mean, who in their right mind buys a trailer 100 miles away lol).

Well being a member on a well known 'wild camping' site, it didnt take me long to work a list down to a few possibles and then ask for opinions, and we struck upon this beauty.......

Image

From sitting in the van, Mountains to the right and behind us, beach and sea to the left and sand dunes in-front of us!!!! And hardly anyone to share it with in all the time we were there :)

Well somewhere between there and collecting the trailer I lost £50 (the first of 3 bad things in one day - well 4 if you include some numbskull messing up a order months ago and me not checking)!

I am just waiting for another excuse to go there! - behind us was a 'holiday park' VERY QUIET but they so food and cheap too (not tested that yet, perhaps thats my excuse to make this write up complete).

VERY out of my comfort zone - day light and to top it off - direct sunlight to deal with ;)

It is roughly a hour away from the M6.
You go through the most beautiful scenery (Newby Bridge (bottom of windermere), past Coniston & overlook the estury) and awesome roads,it's a little hilly and some of the locals don't know what side of the road to drive on but even towing I was happily plodding along.

If you need further info, message me. There are two other great spots with similar views very close to this one and one further inland.

Great photos Nij but it's not often like that.
My sister and family live in Millom and its usually at least a force 8!

Your right about the drive - a great B road trek through the lesser known areas of the Lakes.
The hill in the background is Black Combe which rises 2,000 feet pretty much straight out of the Irish Sea, and is a great walk with brilliant clear views of the fells from Scafell/Pillar/Coniston etc.
Another great road for camping is the turn off towards Ulpha just after Broughton in Furness.

Oh I can imagine the wind gets up especially where we were parked.

Cheers for the info, might add it to my lakes tour for the summer :)
