carb problem, choke problem, accel problem?????

Post by T25DUB »

hi guys little advice if you can have been reading through wiki and cant establish where the problem lies can you help problem as follows.

1) get into van put keys in ignition
2) depess accelerator to reset choke
3) start van.... this is were problem occurs

now if i leave the van it ticks over just fine and no problems if left until up to temp (midway on guage on red light) but if i put a bit of throttle down just after starting.. it sticks in a sence and the revs rocket and stay there and dont come down unless i give the accelerator a quick BOOT....

now my thinking is could this either be the choke needs stripping as is original ...or have the carb and choke gaskets and Dias changed as the carb has original seals in also..

or could it be the accelerator sticking when cold as only occurs when cold..

anything i can try befor i book it in for the above seal changes ect or anyone else had same issue

hi, the engine revs should be above normal tick over speed when cold starting. Once the engine has been running for 5 mins or so a quick blip of pedal should let the fast idel cam release. sometimes the black plastic pulldown unit splits inside and lets the choke flap move to much.Sounds like you have something sticking or mis-adjusted in the fast idel area. You can remove the plastic carb intake and work the throttle by hand when cold to see whats going on maybe. cheers
