1.6 Diesel Starter Motor Removal

Post by realaledrinker »

Hi All,

I've searched everywhere & still struggling to find a definative answer for removing my starter motor.

It's a 1.6D and the starter motor is fixed with 2 long bolts.
One of these bolts passes through the clutch slave cylinder mount.
This mount is preventing me from removing the starter motor.

I got underneath & removed a 13mm bolt which seemed to be some support for the bracket (This screwed into the gear box).
I cant seem to work out how to move the slave cylinder bracket so I can pull out the starter motor.

Please help

If its the same as a 1700 diesel, you should be able to use a big screwdriver or similar to just bend the support away from the bellhousing giving you enough room to twist out the starter. Best of luck.

take off your battery+ then remove the 2 long bolts out and push the clutch mount out of the way.then get the starter out and rest it on the engine to remove the wires :ok

Brilliant,

Thanks very much, I just easily removed it (It wasn’t easy without moving the housing slightly with a screwdriver)
My Mrs keeps telling me to more gentle.... I guess I listened to her to much on this occasion.

Thanks again,
