Campsites in Dorset anyone?

Post by RachelB »

We (me, OH, two kids, 14 and 10) are off to Camp Bestival nr Lulworth Castle in July and want to stay on for a few days in our T25, can anyone recommend a decent site please. Looked at Durdle Dore but looks pretty pricey, thanks.

Cheers for that, will have a look. The T25 is a new acquisition, hopefully it will still be running by then. Need to get the kitchen fitted in although the OH does not seem to bothered about this. It will probably b our first time camping in it so quite looking forward to the adventure!

We have been to East Fleet Farm a few times. Not sure how expensive it is now, but it was set a bit off the main road, but with a regular small bus passing through and into Weymouth. Good travel links from Weymouth to other places. Small pub onsite. Close to the fleet for walks etc. It is a good family site.

I think the cheapest you will find in that area is Steeple Leaze farm near Kimmeridge. Last year it was £5 per adult per night and no extra silly charges for kids, awnings, dogs etc. It's a basic site with tap and toilet. No showers but in a beautiful setting and fires allowed.

if you want to travel west a bit (35mls) try there is a lovely little campsite behind the 5 Bells at Whitchurch Canonicorum - not far from Lyme Regis, £10/night all in - no charge per person etc, fires allowed, little shower/toilet behind the pub. best value ive managed to find down there, very quiet though!

I agree. We used this site last year, very good, it was good value and we were impressed by the size of the pitch etc. I would advise to ask for pitches away from the play area though, very noisy!

I second the 5 Bells. Had a couple of nights there last year.
There's some nice places around Corfe and Studland - especially if you're c&cc and want small/basic.
I did a fortnight around north Devon and Dorset last summer - didn't pre-book a thing and it was fab!

As already suggested, Tom's Feild is great and Burnbake is worth a look - no hook up though.

I disliked Burnbake with a passion tbh.

Inclusion in the cool camping guide can be the death knell for a site IMO.

Why do you dislike it?
