Hope fully start chopping mine on sunday.I left this side while last as when driving down the road it all ways has it's best side to on coming traffic

Re: Wing,arch,valance,side window&Sliding door,cab step repair
Well after a long time not doing much to my restoration I finally got a little bit done today.
Started with a rather rusty/holey drivers side cab step. I got lucky with the near side step as it only needed a little patch but this one was well gone:

So started cutting bits away, being careful not to snip the throttle cable!

Then made the new step in pieces. Used cardboard to make templates first, still cut a couple of bits short but easily filled in with more metal.

As per usual I forgot to take the final pic of it painted up but I still need to go back to grind the welds down.
That was it for today. Had a little nosey round the engine I bought the other day off Billy numbers and checked out the clutch/flywheel I bought off Aiden at Dubfreeze (in very good condition too Aiden if you are reading at all, cheers

Coming on well jon. Did you check under the throttle pedal where it hinges. Mine looked ok but water had done its worst and I had to patch it . Worth checking while your down there .

Cheers Dazco. We patched very close to that bracket but it did appear OK. Jon.

Not at the moment
Moving house soon so can't afford to pay the welder, although I should be getting him round for a day this month hopefully! Maybe 3 sessions left of bodywork.
Been a bit lazy as there's loads I can be doing myself really.
I was hoping to speak to Grumpy Midget soon and see if he fancies helping me fit my engine. Getting it running would be a massive accomplishment.
Ive been following your work. It's looking good! Now, if only I had 14 days free to work on mine

Has it really been that long since I worked on this? I am going to read through the entire thread and get the welder round as soon as he's back off holiday! Jon.

Started to sort the off side rear wheel arch today. Didn't need a full wing replacement like the other side just the arch. Started cutting away at the rust.

Not easy welding under here but started plating up the hole with metal.

Thought we had got away with replacing just half of the arch as the other bit looked ok; maybe needed a grind down and vactan, but, with a harder stab with a screw driver revealed more rust that will need sorting next time.

Re: Wing,arch,valance,side window&Sliding door,cab step repair
Now, before discovering the rest of the arch needed replacing we started on the rear quarter end piece. A relatively straight foward repair but the swage line didn't line up perfectly but it's not a perfect van
Cut off the rusted piece.

New panel clamped in place.

Welded in place.

Moved on to the rear valance. After a good poke around and scraping the paint away a few holes developed that were going to need fixing. Jon.
