Re: Another Tristar wannabe!!!
LHD is fine and if it's not got four doors to start with it it soon can have, don't go 16" unless you really want to spend money unnecessarily, tristar interiors can be retrofitted and sound deadening and nice things but obviously not all have twin difflocks, but that's not a problem to sort; a 14" lhd Tristar syncro is a lot more attainable than a rhd one but saying that someone will probably be along in a mo to offer you one
16" four door dokas with cloth interiors do come along occasionally, but not Tristars so not fully lush interior, talk to Patrik for what's available, most of the Swedish stock has been plundered already

Re: Another Tristar wannabe!!!
Appart from the reinforcement on the 16" and the heavy duty suspension, is the only other difference the wheels to gain ground clearance? If thats the case is it easy enough to upgrade 14" suspension to the HD stuff?
Just call me question boy!!! sorry but thanks everyone for all the help. It deffo has to be RHD as my mrs may need to drive it too.

Re: Another Tristar wannabe!!!
A factory made 16" has the following
- Welded strengthening plates on the B pillar *
- Strengthened front shock fixing *
- Welded strengthening plates on the inside rear quarters
- Stronger CV joints **
- bigger brakes **
- Different front wheel hub to allow for bigger brakes and thicker axle stub ***
- Different rear trailing arm to accomodate bigger brakes and bigger tyres ***
- Different rear wheel hub assembly (for bigger brakes and thicker axle stub) ***
* Also available in a 14" Syncro with "Schlechtwegepaket"
** May be found in VAG parts bin from Audi / LT bits
*** Made from unobtainium
As you have guessed, it's the three star bits that make it difficult/expensive

Re: Another Tristar wannabe!!!
As a daily drive, RHD makes alot of sense in a country that drives on the left, but as has been pointed out you will pay alittle more for it.
There is little point up-grading a 14" to a 16". It is possible but a bit pointless. You can fit 16" wheels to a 14" if you're just after the extra clearance or prefer the look.

Does a 14" syncro has twin locable diffs too? Looks like im going backwards then to a 14" syncro then, and just add on bits as I feel free. I may only do occasional off road duties so its not a major, but bigger wheels and I also like the square headlights

A UK version does (apparently) on all other markets difflocks were optional (on 16"s also btw, at least the font one)

Now you've done it.
Stick to your Syncro questions & don't mind Madmax, sorry Manxman!

I do hope you are being realistic with your budget. In 5 pages you ain't going to say.... "I can't find anything I want for 2 grand!" are you?
