a factory 1.9DG wbx is 76bhp
a factory 2.1 DJ injection is 112bhp
take off the injection and put a carb on...still more power
but for simplicity's sake stick to the straight swap...
you can always do that 2.1 another time
New engine.... VEGE??

I asked the bloke from Elite about it and he seemed to think that there is no significant increase in power and not worth bothering about.
They're picking up my van on Monday night to replace my 1.9 water cooled , like for like.
I s'pose now is the time for me to decide!
Please tell how you Get on as i think im going to do the same in March

VW no longer supply new exchange wbx or Aircooled engines, all gone.
I've had an elite, had some issues but all sorted and the Micks are cracking peeps, just not the most timely sometimes
I've installed a few VEGE's recently and they weren't very good loose heads, wrong end float and other minor faults. Good thing with Vege is if the garage has a problem with it on install they can charge the time fixing it back to vege, but I personally haven't come across an elite that was wrong when it arrived.
I'd want the engine to have the flywheel fitted and set up, vege you have to swap over the old one and check end float yourself, elite they skim it and fit it, vw fitted a new one.

Man from Elite speak from his bottom. There's vastly more torque, it reaches a similar top speed very much easier and thumbs it's noney at hills

2.1 def. more torquey, due to longer crank throw, (76mm, as opposed to 69mm of 1.9)
also, the compression is higher on the 2.1 making it a bit more suitable for running on LPG, should you ever be thinking of it in the future. although many 1.9 owners run gas happily enough with no probs. one possible downside is they (2.1's) should be run on 'super' ie, higher octane, mucho expensive petrol, but putting the timing back a bit allows "normal" unleaded to be used. if any of that helps
