8800 miles doesn't seem that many. Okay, not many Syncros will do that in a year, but that's probably a year's mileage for a family car. What is frightening is when you work out what the petrol costs are for 8800 miles.
8800 miles at 20 miles per gallon = 440 gallons.
440 gallons at £6.10 per gallon = £2684.
Blimey.

but, my syncro 2.1 has a 70 l tank under the rear seat. I had planned to fit it under the standard caravelle seat but the tank does not quite fit without raising the seat by 40mm. I now have an interior from a Joker that i am going to fit with some adaption to rhd. My main regret is that i fitted the tank directly in the middle, this interferes with the brackets on the westy 3/4 rock and roll bed. Im now moving the tank to one side where fingers crossed it looks like it will fit under and within the westy r+r bed. If your interested ill let you know how i get on.
I've not done any detailed calculation but i get about 165 miles on a full tank of gas (up to 200 on motorway only at 55-60mph) which cost's me between £36-£42 depending on location. I get 54 ish litres in on a fill. When i'm commuting and have a pattern i run on gas all the time. Sometimes when travelling around i get stuck for a fill up with such a small range and wish i had fitted two tanks instead. Generally i"m very happy and have saved money with the gas. It might have saved some effort if i had got an interior before my tank but that would have been a 2 year gap in which I have more than payed for the fitting. If i take into account the absolute highest price i recently paid of 78p per litre for gas and a 20% add on for inefficiency compared to petrol. (I don't think it's quite that inefficient) That would be 93p per litre at worst, saving me around 40p per litre. Much better return than the bank.
I just ordered a kit to turn my open loop system into a closed loop with a lambda sensor. This should make the system more efficient, fingers crossed.
hope that helps

There is a way to get 70 litres+ under a standard Caravelle r'n'r bench without having to go the custom tank route:
Tinley list a pair of tanks at 270 dia (these just squeeze under with a small mod to the bench frame) one at 605 long (30 ltr wet) and one at 875 long (45 ltr) which will give 60 litres gas capacity on a good day.
Overall length 1480 so should also fit inside a full-size Multivan hinge system with space for your a gallon of oil and your ecu in-between (you'll have to move the bracket off-centre though)
OK so you'll have to buy 2 sets of multivalves and a couple of non-returns but it's cheaper than a custom tank.
