I might not be able to make it due to an alarm being fitted that weekend now.

Still lookin good. I even jet washed the truck yesterday,
still had a fair bit of "pooh" stuck firm in all those places i was told to clean.
Ready for some more of the same.
Still haven't done the poo hole,
so will have to avoid the deep stuff if possible.

Hi Neil, do you know the lanes well, as in 'where the holes are'?

I'm having real doubts about my syncro's health. Aidan has advised me "sooner rather than later" so it's going to be gearbox out asap before it goes bang. "To lane or not to lane" 'tis the question...
Dare I chance it and have some (gentle) fun at the risk of terminal failure and £££ bills and aggro, or cry off and get the work done then have no transmission worries for a good while?

Code: Select all

Aidan has advised me "sooner rather than later"
Was that from the condition of the drain plug? Or something more ominous?

It growls a bit in 3rd and 4th. Not deafening but audible, like a high-mileage Sprinter with a knackered diff. Better since I drained it and refilled with some clean oil but the plug was more than furry - a few shards on it too
Diagnosis is mainshaft bearing on the way out. It's ok in 1st/2nd and G. Shifts sweetly considering how cold it is and 100k on the clock.
I'm using it to go to work, but it's only 3 miles each way. Really not sure if I should press on or play safe.

Mines on 300k! been up to 60mph [top speed i think] and seems ok. Want to get the turbo back and play in the snow! Perfect time to test if the vc works. Had a little go on some frosty grass at the weekend [rear wheel on grass front on tarmac] seemed to pull off whilst rear wheels spinning, so fingers crossed
