Re: Starting engine from cold
Went on the same route as yesterday when I had the problems already raised and no issues this time. Have not looked at jet advice raised by diabolov yet. But needed fuel and piece of mind hence trip. Odd how these issues are so intermittent.

Went on same route today to see if problem has resolved itself as needed fuel and piece of mind. Have not checked jet as recommended by diabolov yet. No issues this time. Odd how these problems pop up randomly. Maybe increased rev adjust by RAC guy yesterday has sorted it.

Re: Starting engine from cold
Sounds like the choke is coming off and then not getting any fuel through the carb and going weak, idle jet blocked, crap/water in the carb....TONYT25T25 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2024, 19:30 Update, took van out for a drive today, started ok, but 5 mins into drive, engine began coughing and spluttering and kept cutting out. Managed to struggle to a nearby fuel station. Took cover off carb as I thought the choke plate may have been stuck in closed position but it was ok and open. Engine would start but kept stalling. Called RAC as did not want to conk out on road. RAC guy managed to get it going said fuel filter looked a bit cloudy, asked if airfilter was ok, tweaked fast idle bit of spray down carb, did some 12v checks in engine bay, and I drove back ok with no further issues. Was thinking of going away this weekend but not until I get this sorted. What else me thinks
Dismantle the carb and check/clean out jets and bowl would be my route....
I wouldn't start altering settings untill I knew the carb/jets were clean.

Thanks, mention was made on when float chamber was last cleaned, way ahead seams to be complete carb clean but need to study more vids like the one produced by James Akers but looks very involved.

Re: Starting engine from cold
UPDATE. Prior to adjustment of the Idle speed (throttle psition screw) to increase revs as mentioned above, I would start the engine from cold let it rev by itself until it warmed up, then press the accelerator which would reduce the revs. Since the increase of the idle speed the action of the depressing of the acc pedal no longer reduces the revs. Should i worry about this?

Re: Starting engine from cold
Thinking of starting a new post ref 2E3 carburrettor as mine is baffling me. Engine persists in not functioning correctly, rough idling, stalling etc have adjusted idle speed (throttle position screw see image) which when engine is hot appears to work, but when I come back later to start engine, it starts but will not keep running. Spraying carb cleaner down into carb encourages revs briefly but still stalls. Any more advice welcomed.

Re: Starting engine from cold
You might have worn bushes on the accelerator shaft causing it to take air in. Mine ran like a***, had to swap the carb out for the brosol I got til I can rebush it, runs fine now with the brosol on, although I have changed the jets and some other bits.

Thanks, these Carbs are so complex, never thought of the part you mentioned, is it the rod or shaft from the throttle lever into the carb, I may spray carb cleaner there to see if any change in engine sound.

Re: Starting engine from cold
Had another look at the Carb today after engine still playing up and does not keep running when starting. Found another vacuum unit at back of carb whose pipes had perished, replaced with new vaccum pipes, engine now running much better. I think it is called "stageii ll diaphragm unit" Unsure if this was cause of my problems or part of them. Need to take van for a proper run to test.

Suck on the pipe and see if it holds vacuum to see if it’s working as it should.

Re: Starting engine from cold
Thanks, pipe was to short to test in situ, so removed it, blew through it after blocking one end and air escaped, same for sucking it, so replaced it, hope this was cause of my probs. Unsure of its purpose though as no explanation on line.

Re: Starting engine from cold
Stick a longer pipe on it and test the vacuum of the unit, as well as the pipe the diaphragm may be knackered.
