I would like to see inside one "in the flesh" to see what process was used to produce the rotor and stator elements, then we can see about getting a source of replacements with suitable heat/surface treatment.
I could probably justify purchasing some precision scales with a suitable tare once the parts and fluids have been sourced and costed.
Let the arguments commence......

I have been informed that no plate warpage has been seen by many rebuilders, only mild scoring of the plates. (i guess that the scoring will come from a hard VC going into hump sooner) a failed open VC should have good plates.

It sounds like to me that the extra expense some manufacturers add on for warped plates might be bogus, how are you going to find out if it is true or not, but the seller makes another £200 of easy profit. Is it just my suspicious mind working over-time?

Yes it is, but coppers are meant to be!!
Guess you could ask to see old plates, but as you say, impossible to check really.

There aren't many places that return all "dead" parts after a rebuild. Aidan must be one of the few...having said that more than a few of our customers aren't that interested, as they don't know what they are looking at!
It confirms my suspicions that there's a lot of old flannel talked on this subject (refer to various comments in the 120 Euro thread) that suits the interests of the few who are in the VC rebuild business. Good luck to them hanging on to their monopoly, but I for one am enjoying the challenge of digging up the crucial data.
I'm up for having a go now we've got some numbers.
