thanks for the advice. I've copped out and I'm taking it to the garage tomorrow as I just haven't been around to have a look. Hopefully they'll manage to sort it. I'll let you know their diagnosis.

cheers

hmmm...I have spoken to the garage and they have confirmed that it's gear box oil. However, they have topped it up and said it wasn't very low, it's only a minor leak and at the moment they can't see where it's coming from. Could either be the flange seal on the offside or something to do with the casing that would mean the gasket needs replacing (big job!).

However, for now, he says he doesn't think it's too much of a problem and we should try and get a few miles in and have a look to see if it gets any worse. Guess I'll just have to follow the advice and hope he's right! I don't want to do any major damage.

cheers everyone. Strangely since the garage topped it up and I brought it home - no more leak! I'll just have to keep an eye on it for now.

When you say have it done when you change the clutch - how often does that normally need doing?

thanks

Usually after 140,000 miles they need changing but it depends on the way it has been driven I suppose.
You will know if it needs changing when it starts to slip under acceleration
So thats once in its life time then to answer your question
