It has already been done with rather disapointing results.I havent personaly seen it but have read an article i stumbled apon. It sounded like far to much work when you can just fit a VW TDI.
I have read 2 articles the dont rate the diesel very well in the scoobi.

Re: Syncro Doka Subaru turbo
I would love to be proved wrong about the Canbus issue, as there's loads of lovely Canbus petrol motors.

Re: Syncro Doka Subaru turbo
Andy just read the wiki info, from what I gather it maybe posible to get one to work, the only external signals the engine might need are speed, and revs, apart from that shouldnt the rest of the signals come from the engine CAN ie exhaust sensor injectors etc, and these would be controlled by the engine CAN ECU?
Or is there more to it that that
Sorry maybe this should be a new thread

Re: Syncro Doka Subaru turbo
I think it's possible there are Canbus digital links from the ECU module to immobiliser, cruise, display module, controls, and aircon subsystems, and maybe others besides. Absence or problems with any one of these may cause a failure of some sort on the ECU. This is totally different scenario to the analogue signals used on engines up to around 2000 which are easy to hack. I've not gone to the trouble of checking a wiring diagram yet, this is just what I've picked up.

Re: Syncro Doka Subaru turbo
See what you mean if the ECU is looking for a signal and its not there then its going to flag a fault, I guess the code is hard to access and switch off/recode.

Re: Syncro Doka Subaru turbo
Even on my motor (2000MY) with old-fashioned wiring, a number of external inputs from aircon, speed sensor, radiator fan control, gearshift and so on must be correct not only to avoid fault codes but real running issues. These signals could be much harder to replicate in a Canbus environment. I know that some conversions with recent motors have to bring over much more from the donor including all controls and instruments, and it may be possible to take this approach, but it would be much more work than the usual T3 swap.
