Finally got the 16" doka through its Manx test today, took so long due to my slackness and having a house to build and a unexpected problem or two along the way, and 'cos there super strict!
Had to take the engine out to fix a head leak (did both) replaced all exhaust studs, new stainless steel exhaust, water pump, push rod tube cover plates, couple of metal water pipes. etc.
all new power flex bushes up front (brickwerks)
went to fit stainless braided flexi brake hoses, but although the fixed steel brake lines themselves were like new, the unions were corroded so bad they had to be cut off so I ended up having to remake most of the steel lines up front and the two on the rear trailing arms, one union sheared in a rear brake cylinder, on removal found a little corrosion in it (wasnt leaking) so replaced that and a few other bits that were looking a bit scabby.
also had to replace the two steering doughnuts.
new head lights, (stickers not acceptable)
foglights (fitted both sides)
sure there was more but its probably best not to remember it all!
anyway after all that it failed first time due to the front grille being a bit loose, no water in washer bottle, and battery not tightly clamped down.
3 mins to correct but had to go for a retest, another day a further £15 later and its passed.
new number plate U160MAN (U-16"0-MAN best I could do)
next job remove 40mph stickers, fit big bull bar, kc day lighters, nip the seam rust in the bud and sort out a respray, bit of a lift kit, roof tent........
Funny how it can fail of a "loose grill"..
washer bottle and battery... you should have known better....
My bus failed on no sliding door handle and corroded brake flexi nuts (had to find something I suppose as they were in quite good nick) but missed the rear wheel bearing play..... which was picked up on the French one 2 weeks ago...
should have, probably would have but I did a deal with the mechanic with a workshop next door who needed a new compressor (that i just happend to have) that if he finished of the last few jobs and got it through its test he could take my compressor as payment. So I blame him!
Saying that he did try and ring me about the location of the washer bottle (not the easiest thing to find) but i was at work.
never mind hey its passed now, and they didnt notice the chip on the windscreen

I bought the syncro 16" from Lars Neuffer He is based in a place called Goettingen
Famous place Christoph, amongst aerodynamicists?! Georg-August University of Göttingen virtually gave the world modern aerodynamics.
Ludwig Prandtl's students; Theodore Von Karman, Max Munk, Adolf Busseman... and many others, spread around the world after the Nazi purges of 1933 (incl. Einstein and many physicists and mathematicians) and then again after 1945, many came here and then to the States...
PS. The George who helped found it in 1734 was George II of Great Britain (didn't know that till I googled it)
Busseman postulated the swept wing for compressible flight as early as the late 1920's, Von Karman and others laughed at him... bet they're not laughing now
