no its people using standard golf mk1/mk2 parts with engines that are putting out 300 / 350 bhp... and god knows how much torque..

there are many diy conversion setups you can buy now to do mk2 golf 20t conversions and alot even come with a basic mapped ecu..
WHY T3's.... because they are just so adictive, and having one just aint enough

the 20vt though depending on what combination of turbo and control systems can realy kick in hard.. to the point were i have heard of them breaking cv joints/drive shafts.. and thats on boxes more robust than that used on a t3..

  That's a lot of torque, so presumably first gear with slick tyres and a dropped clutch to do that?

the 1.8 16 valve in standard form will break an 020's output shafts. A very weak gearbox.

I was running 220bhp in an 020 for 26,000 miles. :D

Probably did about ten to fifteen 14 second standing quarters and a couple of 140mph+ runs.

Not one problem with the 020 box at all. :D

I know i've been very lucky with that box, and I had another rebuilt 020 with a LSD and some other goodies lined up inside. I never fitted it as the original box stood up so well.

Generally the diff pins go first, I've seen a few knock holes in the casing.

220 on an 020 is excellent it is down to how its driven though even with drag racing. Yes i agree the diff pins are the weakest point as shown on golf4 1.6's a very common failure, the output shafts break if the pins don't.

Ok, so I'm probably going to go ahead and fit a 20vT engine into a van next year.

I'm probably going to fit it upright, rather than canted over and modify the engine cover/rear deck area.

Time to do some research me thinks.....
