Well it looks like it is a cut & shut modification. I think that's the part number for a standard grill.

It looks like someone has used the lamps and surrounds (maybe from a Mk1 Golf?) and blended them in almost perfectly on the outside. The joins are a bit more obvious on the inside, especially where the driver's side lamp has been pushed out. I think I feel worse now that someone's hand-made grill is now a pile of pieces. I can't even jig-saw it back together because it looks like the bin-men cleared up afterwards and there are a few bits missing :(

On the bright side after listening to 30 minutes of recorded messages about council services I did get to speak to someone who took my details and said someone will be in touch.

Stiff them for a full square lamp and grill set , cozy you can't possibly get the type you had, and that's the nearest you will get !

Well that had me fooled.
Be in touch is not good enough, you should phone back and demand their insurance details or contact the police if they won't give them, promptly.
You should also inform your insurance, you are obliged and they will see it in the insurance database,
check for other damage too.

I wanted to have a go at this, even got a spare grill off what2do for the job but I doubt I would ever have the patience to make it that good, still may do it....if I ever get the time :D

Cutting the profile into the slats that are on quite a curve is the tricky bit I think, I suppose a laser cutting service is the answer

I wouldn't go square. Replacing anything becomes stupidly expensive - if you can even find the bits. Stay round - bigger choice of headlights then.
