It's yours. It's expensive. And it probably didn't need to come out.

If they do then they are not the garage for you for future works, its your property after all

They said they'd looked at the petrol tank and couldn't find anything wrong. Im wondering if it could be the expansion tank under the wheel arch...at least thats where the smells coming from..
Anyway, the drive this morning was perfect and the van sounded really good after a few months of sounding very lumpy and cutting out virtually every drive, so Im guessing somethings improved!

its highly likley that this is the spot, its an easy fix and worth doing yourself, if you unsure pop up a post for a forum member in your area that could help you. If you manage to fit it yourself it will feel great.

This should help

It could be the float valve (14) washer at the top of the tank

more likely to be......
grommets on the top of the tank (6), or
corroded breather tube (4)
corroded fuel line (16) that connects the number 4 to the Y piece at the end of number 1

When I did mine I ran fresh fuel lines from the Y piece to the expansion tank
and fuel line from 14 to 14 on each expansion tank.

If you were a bit nearer to Suffolk I could help you but Im sure there will be a helpful member in East Sussex

Be brave.

and I little tip....from another Emma!

Build up a relationship with a garage. Post up waht you are taking it in for here first. Get some thoughts. Then when you take it in you can talk about it with a little knowledge. Question them. Ask them to put it on the lift and show you what needs changing and why. Any reputable garage should offer you something like this (although insurance may be a reason for refusal, and understandably so I guess) My garage always keeps my "rubbish" for me - the old brake pads come back in the box the new ones came out of!

I would go with the "I can't find it in my bus and I need to have it refurbed when I can afford it" line....but do it as soon as they open tomorrow....or even better drop in with a nice smile and ask for it! As above - if they get stroppy they are not the garage for you xx

When you get the bus back, ask to see what has been changed. Anyone who has any pride in their work will be more than pleased to show you!

My chap makes me a cuppa now...we are on first name terms, and we regularly pop in for a chat!

Good luck.
xx

Thanks so much - it really does mean a lot to me that people on this forum actually care.
Thanks other Emma :) Such good tips - I wasn't shown anything when I went to collect it - I went there late (6ish) just as they were closing, but still wasn't shown what work they'd done. I have another garage to go to where the guy there for some reason loves me?! I have trouble even leaving there sometimes...he usually explains things to me and doesn't charge me the earth. Its a local garage called Saab Tech but he's interested in campers and I've taken 3 vans there so far. The reason I took it to the VW place was because I just thought that for some reason, t25s have such a lengthy fuel line system (am i imagining that?) that they might be able to source the problem faster and with better knowledge.

Maybe I should email Resto Classics if Im finding it so hard to actually face them..

Good working relationships crucial. The present and previous MOT inspector I use are brilliant and quite happy for me to follow them underneath when testing as they know I do all the work myself and as they've both said, mine is in better condition than many cars over 10 years old. Unless you have a clear idea of what needs attention, you can't really know whats what. Unlike modern cars where everything has to be replaced as large units (often at great expense), T25s are pretty much plug-n-play meccano and therefore easier to understand. Certainly as a newbie, the Haynes manual is a great way to learn. Despite creaky knees, I won't let ANYONE go near my brakes as I know how to set them up properly and much prefer doing them myself for peace of mind.

That said, clutch needs replacing so may let a garage do it this time unless it holds out until Spring....

The garage that I have to use for my bus is great - I am always allowed in the pit if there is anything untoward under there. One heck of a bonus as jacking up 4.5 tons of van is a pain although I can get underneath most of it without lifting it up. It may help that the tester and I sit there yacking about how good the fishing has been!

From what you have said about Saab Tech, Emma, it sounds like you might be onto a good thing with them. He likes Campers, (has he had one or is he old enough to have worked on them when they were new?), he likes you, if he is able to listen to suggestions that you have or that you've picked up from here and he is local enough to you then I don't think you need much more. I always leave a Haynes in the van when I'm getting something done - don't know if they ever look at it, but it can't do any harm.

And Saab's are ok too, well old ones are - had a 1988 900 many years ago, ended up giving it to a mate so it could go out in a blaze of glory at a local banger race :ok

If you are frightened of asking for your own property back.then i think you will be getting ripped off for the rest of your life.personally i think you should grow a pair and insist on its return.Sorry to sound so harsh but you really need to learn to stand up for yourself.

I'd be asking for it back too. Its your property. May well have helped pay the garage bill.
